Ta Xua is not a popular destination for the average tourist; however, the name of Ta Xua thrills the nerves of any adventure-seeker. It is a wonderful destination for adventure tours.

Ta Xua ranks tenth on the top highest mountains in Vietnam. The most alluring part of Ta Xua is the ocean of cloud floating under your feet once you get to the peck. It is somehow the sole purpose of making the journey to this destination. The journey to Ta Xua Peak, therefore, is famously known as the “cloud hunt.”

However, the hunt is not easy. It depends much on getting the right time. You would most likely to encounter the cloud ocean from December to March. And it is also important that you get to the top early in the morning around 5 to 9 a.m. But if you could not make it in the right time, you still are blessed with the jaw-dropping scenery of the valley below. To go to Ta Xua, you can approach from Tram Tau (Yen Bai Province) or Bac Yen (Son La Province).

Besides the “cloud hunt,” the dinosaur backbone also tops as one of the main reason for visiting Ta Xua. “Dinosaur backbone” is actually the ridges linking between the three summits. There is a small foot-route running through the narrow ridge, which looks like the backbone of a dinosaur. Crossing along the ridges with the two sides are steep slopes, it is the desired destination and the ultimate challenge for experienced bikers. If you are not one of those experience and daring bikers, you can opt to have a thrilling trekking. It is obviously one of the most stunning trekking trails in Vietnam. The scene from the dinosaur backbone is priceless and beyond word and must be the experience of the lifetime.

To get to Ta Xua from Hanoi, you can go make a motorbike trip to Bac Yen and spend a night here or go straight to Ta Xua and camp at the foot of the mountain.

Another way is to travel there by coach. Started from Yen Nghia Coach Station, take a bus to Phu Yen and then to Bac Yen which is just 15 kilometers from Ta Xua. You can catch a motorbike taxi to Ta Xua and start your trekking.

It just recently pops up on the scene and attracts more and more young local visitors who crave for challenge and adventure. Its beauty could compete with that of Sapa; however, it still remains unknown for most of the foreign travelers and a well-off-the-the-beaten-track. Ta Xua is obviously among the wildest journey for adventure-seekers.
